I. Objectives:

Option 1: Game: Shark attack. Have students get through the rules of the games. Divide the class into two teams to compete with each other. Teacher and students play and join the fun. Clues: This word has three letters. It’s a place for people to work and to relax. You can do some fitness training here Answer: Gym Option 2: What place is it? Teacher shows pictures of people who work / play there or pictures of things relating to a place. Students have to guess what place it is. Teacher checks and gives the correct answer. (15’) To introduce the topic of the unit, -Teaching the vocabulary through the games, thepictures or video to help students catch the meaning and pronunciation -Practice the listening points of the unit. Teacher shows pictures of places again to lead in the new lesson. Ask students if they have ever been to any of them. Use real things and pictures to introduce the new words: New words: pool (n) balcony (n) apartment (n) garage (n) gym (n) yard (n) Have students listen and repeat each new word. (chorally – individually) Correct student’s pronunciation if necessary. Activity 1. (Checking new word) Have students look at the pictures, and fill in the blanks with words given. (exercise a/p. 6) Listen again to check the answers. Activity 2: Watching a video clip, name the places Teacher shows a video clip she made about her apartment. Have students watch the video, pause sometimes for students to name the places. (Balcony, kitchen, bedroom, living room, yard, pool, garage). Teacher checks, corrects and gives feedback. Activity 3 (optional): Speaking Teacher makes example sentences with new words. Ask students to work in pairs, talk about their house, using new words. Pronunciation: intonation of Y/N questions àStudents will be able to ask Y/N questions (present simple) using the correct pronunciation feature and use them to exchange information about their homes. (10’) B-Practice – Point, ask and answer (10’) C.Speaking ( 10’) -Ss know how to use intonation for Yes / No questions - Ss can use intonation to improve their speaking skill. Students can use the knowledge in suitable situations with the new vocabulary items presented to express themselves and develop communication, collabaration, critical thinking. - Play the recording (CD1, track 06) - Ask Ss to listen and pay attention to the intonation - Call Ss to make their comments on the intonation of the Yes/No question they’ve just listened to - Give feedback, explain the pronunciation feature: intonation for Yes/No question goes up - Play the recording again, have Ss listen and repeat with a focus on the pronunciation feature - Have students listen and notice the change of the intonation (exercise b/p. 8) - Have them listen & repeat. - Have students listen and cross out the wrong intonation.
