Period: 103 Unit 12: ROBOTS SKILLS 1 I. Objectives By the end of this lesson, students can talk and read for specific information about types of robots and their abilities or skills. 1. Knowledge, Skills, Attitude: a. Knowledge: - Vocabulary: the lexical items related to the topic “Robots”. - Grammar: Could for past ability. Will be able to for future ability b. Skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. c. Attitude: - Ss like abilities of Robots. 2. Capacity is formed and developed for students - Self – learning capability - Communicative competence II. Preparation 1. Teacher: text book, extra board, cassette tape and real objects. 2. Students: textbook, notebook, workbook. III. Students’ activities 1. Warm up (5’) Sts’ and T’s activities Contents Brainstorming T: Divides the class into 4 teams. Asks Ss list the places where robots work. - The team has more answers correctly and quickly is the winner. Ss: Play game. Places where robots work 2. Knowledge formation activities (36’) Sts’ and T’s activities Contents T: Asks Ss to scan the passage and underline the words in the box. Helps Ss work out the meanings of of these words from the context. Reading 1. Find these words or phrases in the text below. What so they mean? *Vocabulary: - space robot (n): - space station (n): - apart from - type (v) T: Asks Ss to ork in pairs, read the text again and answer the questions. Asks them to note where they found the information that helped them to answer the questions. Ss: Read the text, then answer the questions T: Calls on some pairs to check. Ss: Work in pairs before the class T: Gives feedback - Corrects 2. Read the news report on the international robot show. Then answer the questions. *Key: 1. A robot show 2. Young people are interested in home robots. 3. The children like to see them. 4. There are worker robots, doctor robots, and space robots. T: Asks Ss to scan the passage again and find the detailed information to complete the table. Asks Ss to note where they found the information that helped them to answer the questions. Ss: Scan the passage then find the details T: Confirms Ss’ answers ans give feedback. Ss: Brainstorm ideas for additional everyday activities that a robot can help with. 3. Read the text again and fill the table below. *Key: Home robots: cook, make tea or coffee, lean the house, and do the washing. Teaching robots: help children study, teach them English, literature, and other subjects; help children improve their English pronunciation. Worker robots: build houses, buildings. Doctor robots: help sick people Space robots: build space stations on the Moon and other planets. T: Reminds Ss of the form and use of will be able to. - Brainstorms ideas for additional everyday activities that a robot can help with. - Asks Ss to work individually, write what they think each type of robot will able to do in the future. T may ask Ss to count how many things they have in common with their partners. Listening. 1. Do you agree or disagree with these statements? Tick (v) the boxes. T: Asks Ss to read the instructions carefully and reminds them to remember the names of people in the conversation they are going to hear. - Plays the recording and ask Ss to write down the names. Ss: Listen and write down the name of the students they hear. T: Plays the recording again for Ss to check their answers. 2. Phong, Vy, Mi and Duy are working in group. They are discussing what robots will be able to do in the future. Listen to their conversation and find out which person says that. *Key: Vy Duy Mi Phong Mi T: Asks Ss to study statements carefully. Plays the recording again and has Ss choose the correct answers as they listen. Ss: Listen the choose the correct answers. Then share their answers with their partners. T: Plays the recording again for Ss to check their answers. 3. Listen again.
