I. Giới thiệu chương trình môn học:
1. Mục tiêu chung:
- Hình thành và phát triển ở học sinh những kiến thức, kĩ năng cơ bản về Tiếng Anh và những phẩm chất trí tuệ cần thiết để tiếp tục học hoặc đi vào cuộc sống lao động.
2. Mục tiêu cụ thể:
- Nắm được kiến thức cơ bản và tương đối hệ thống về Tiếng Anh thực hành hiện đại, phù hợp với lứa tuổi.
- Có kĩ năng cơ bản dưới dạng nghe - nói - đọc - viết.
- Có sự hiểu biết khái quát văn hoá của các nước sử dụng Tiếng Anh.
- Hình thành các kĩ năng học tiếng và phát triển tư duy.
 II. Cấu trúc sách Tiếng Anh 6:
- Tiếng Anh 6 gồm 16 đơn vị bài học (Units) tương ứng với 16 chủ điểm và được chia nhỏ theo các mục tương ứng với một hoặc hai tiết học.
 - Mỗi một bài học được phát triển theo trình tự các bước:
+ Giới thiệu bài học
+ Giới thiệu ngữ liệu mới
+ Luyện tập
+ Vận dụng và củng cố
 - Phần giới thiệu ngữ liệu 
mới thường thông qua các hoạt động nghe - nhắc lại; nghe - đọc; đọc.
- Tiếp theo là phần kiểm tra mức độ thông hiểu qua các hoạt động thực hành có kiểm soát.
- Sau phần này là phần thực hành gồm các hoạt động nghe - nói - đọc - viết.
- Cuối cùng ở mỗi bài đều có phần “Remember” là mục tóm tắt các cấu trúc và từ vựng trong bài tiện cho việc ôn luyện và củng cố của giáo viên và học sinh.
- Ngoài ra còn có phần “Grammar practice” sau mỗi hai hoặc ba bài nhằm tóm tắt, ôn tập và củng cố những phần ngữ pháp có trong hai hoặc ba bài trước đó.
- Cuối sách là phần tổng kết ngữ pháp và bảng từ vựng của cả năm học.
