1. Warm up (5’)
- Ask Ss to look at the picture of Khang’s neighbourhood with some questions.
- Look at and answer
1. Where do you think Khang’s neighbourhood is?
2. What do you think about it?
3. Do you like living there? Why? Why not?
Period: 31 UNIT 4: MY NEIGHBOURHOOD Lesson 4: Communication I. Objectives 1. Knowledge, Skills, Attitude: a. Knowledge: By the end of this lesson, students can talk about different places and show directions to these in a neighborhood. - Vocabulary: the lexical items related to the topic “My friends”. - Grammar: Comparative adjectives. b. Skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. c. Attitude: hard, concentrated and active. 2. Capacity is formed and developed for students - Self – learning capability - Communicative competence II. Preparation 1. Teacher: text book, extra board, cassette tape and real objects. 2. Students: textbook, notebook, workbook. III. Students’ activities 1. Warm up (5’) T elicits and asks – Ss answer What do you know about Hoi An? Anything you can remember about it. 2. Knowledge formation activities (36’) Teacher’s & Students’ activities Contents Explain and guide Ss to use sequence markers Take note Acivity 1: Help Ss to train listening skill. Ask Ss if they know about Hoi An. Allow 20 – 30 seconds for Ss to think. Have Ss brainstorm about Hoi AN. Playing the recording. Ask Ss to listen only. Then play the recording again and allow Ss to fill in the gaps as they listen. Ask Ss to share their answers in pairs, before playing the recording a final time to allow the pairs to check their answers. Choose one of the cities below. Create an audio guide for your city. Remember to: - include some comparisons with other cities. give directions to different places. Activity 3: Help Ss to train speaking skill - Have Ss practice presenting their audio guide in pairs. - Call some Ss to present their audio guide to the whole class. - Make comments and any mistakes if there are any. 3. Knowledge formation activities (36’) Teacher’s & Students’ activities Contents Activity 1: Help Ss to train reading skill - Ask Ss to scan the passage to find where the words suburbs, backyard are in the passage. - Ask Ss to note where they found the information that help them to answer the questions. - Have ss compare their answers in pairs *Reading Find these words in Khang’s blog. What do they mean? Ask Ss to scan the passage again and find the information to complete the table. Ask Ss to note where they found the information that help them to answer the questions. Have ss compare their answers in pairs. 2. Read Khang’s blog. Then answer the questions. Key: 1. It is in the suburbs of Da Nang City. 2. Because it has beautiful parks and sandy beaches and fine weather. 3. They are very friendly. 4. Because there’re many modern buildings and offices in the city. - Ask Ss to scan the passage again and find the information to complete the table. - Ask Ss to note where they found the information that help them to answer the questions. Have ss compare their answers in pairs. 3. Read Khang’s blog again and fill in the table with the information. Key: Like: 1. It’s great for outdoor activities. 2. There’s almost everything here 3. The food is very good. 4. People are incredibly friendly. Dislike: 1. The street are busy, crowded, and noisy during the day. Activity 2: Help Ss to train speaking skill - Remind Ss of expressions they can use to give directions. - Model this activity with a more able St and then have Ss work in pairs. - Call some pairs to talk before the whole class, then invite some comments from other Ss. *Speaking 4. In pairs, ask and answer questions about how to get to the places on the map. Example: (page 44) 3. Consolidation 4’ - Help Ss summarize the lesson - Note some common errors and discuss them with the whole class. - Select some pairs to act out their dialogue in front of the class. - Give feedback 5. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to listen for specific information about directions to some places in a neighbourhood and write about what they like or dislike about their neighbourhood. - Vocabulary: the lexical items related to places and descriptive adjectives. - Grammar: imperative to give directions, adjective + N. b. Skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. c. Attitude: hard, concentrated and active. 2. Write a paragraph about your neighbourhood saying what you like or dis like about living there. Use the information in 4, and Khang'blog as a model.
