I. OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to

1. Knowledge

- talk about movies, kinds of movies they like and dislike.

2. Ability

- improve listening and speaking skills.

- develop the ability to communicate and cooperate with their partners, to self-study, to solve problems in conversation situations.

3. Quality

- have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities, especially with the topic “movies”.

Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers, DCR & DHA on EDUHOME, handouts

III. PROCEDURES

A. Warm up (5’)

a) Objective: To help students relax and get interested in the topic of the lesson

b) Content: Listening to parts of some soundtracks or watching short extracts from some famous movies

c) Product: Ss understand and have general ideas about the topic "movies".

d) Competence: collaboration, communication, guessing

Lesson 1 - Part 1 (Page 54) – New words and Listening
I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to

- talk about movies, kinds of movies they like and dislike.
2. Ability

- develop the ability to communicate and cooperate with their partners, to self-study, to solve problems in conversation situations.

III. PROCEDURES
A. Warm up (5’)
a) Objective: To help students relax and get interested in the topic of the lesson
b) Content: Listening to parts of some soundtracks or watching short extracts from some famous movies
c) Product: Ss understand and have general ideas about the topic "movies".

Option 1. 
- Let Ss watch some short extracts from famous movies (Titanic, I see yellow flowers on the green grass...) 
Option 2: 
- Let Ss listen to parts of some soundtracks from some famous movies (My heart will go on, I see yellow flowers on the the grass...) 
Option 3: Chatting
- Ask Ss to answer some questions:
1. Do you like watching movies?
2. What's your favorite movie?
3. Who are your favorite actors and actresses? 
4. How often do you watch movies?
* Option 4: Brainstorming: 
- Show some pictures and help students answer what kinds of movie they are
- Watch and guess the name of the movies
- Enjoy the songs...
- Answer the questions
- Guess
B. New lesson (35’)
Activities 1: New words (15’)
a) Objective: to talk about kinds of movies they like and dislike
b) Content: 
- Numbering the pictures, listening and repeating
- Discussing what kinds of movies they like and dislike
c) Products: Ss talk about different kinds of movies.
d) Competence: collaboration, communication, presentation
e) Organization of the activity:

a. Number the picture. Listen and repeat. 
* Presentation:
- Pre teach new words
(Use pictures/ definitions)
- Have the students practice the new words
- Calls some Ss to read the new words individually
- Check vocabulary - Teacher helps Ss to remember the new words by deleting the words and then asks to call out. (Rub out and remember) 
* Practice
- Have students number the pictures
- Give feedback and correct the answers
- Play the audio (CD2 - 13)
Production:
* b. Students say what kinds of movies they like and dislike. 
(Instead of discussing)
- Have the Ss practice
- Have Ss perform
 - Guess the meaning of new words and copy new words in their notebooks.

Activity 2: Listening Skill (15’)
a) Objective: To listen to people talking about a movie for gist/ details
b) Content: Listening and noting down.../ Filling in the table
c) Products: Ss get the main idea and the details of the talk on the recording. 
d) Competence: Listening synthesizing and synthesizing skills, communication
e) Organization of the activity:

* Pre - listening:
- Ask Ss to look at the picture and the tasks
- Make sure Ss understand the context of the listening and are clear about what they are going to do
* While - listening
a. Listen to three friends talking. Note down what kind of movie they are going to see.
(Listening for general idea)
- Play the audio once without stopping for main idea. (CD2 - 14)
- Ask Ss to write the answer
- Check the answer with the whole class
b. Now, listen and fill in the table with the movie time.
 (Listening for details) 
- Have Ss look at the questions and guess the answers
- Ask the students to listen and fill in the table
- Play the audio twice
- Have Ss compare their answers with their friends’
- Give feedback
- Discuss the techniques Ss used for each of the listening tasks 
* Post - listening:
- Have Ss share which movie they would like to watch and why they want to watch it
- Look at the question, read and underline the key words, guess the answer
- Listen to the whole talk
- Give the answer
* Answer key: animated movie
- Listen to the audio carefully individually and fill in the time
- Share the answers with their partners.
- Give the answer as a whole class.

Activity 3: Conversation Skill (5’)
a) Objective: To help Ss start a friendly conversation
b) Content: Listening and repeating
c) Products: Ss know how to start a friendly conversation.
d) Competence: communication
e) Organization of the activity:

* Presentation
- Focus Ss’ attention on the conversation skill box - Explain that we can start a conversation with a friend by saying "Hey" and then introducing the topic
* Practice:
- Play the audio (CD2 - 15)
- Have some students practice the conversation in front of the class. 
- Ss pay attention to the way to start a friendly conversation and copy down in their notebooks.
Ex: A: Hey! Do you want to the movies on Sunday?
 B: Sure. What time is the movie?
- Listen and repeat
- Work in pairs (Their own conversations)
C. Consolidation (3’)
Elicit answers from Ss about:
- the types of movies they have learned in the lesson 
- the techniques used when listening for gist/details
- the way to start a friendly conversation
D. Homework (2’)
- Learn new words about kinds of movies by heart.
- Talk about movies you like and dislike. 
- Do exercises A. New Words in the workbook
a. Unscramble the words (page 38)
b. Fill in the blanks using the words in task 1. (Page 38)
- Listening. Listen and circle (WB - CD 20)
- New lesson: Grammar: Review/ remember some prepositions of time you have learnt and how to use them.
